Libguide Libguide: How we use LibGuides

How we use LibGuides - Understanding guide types

We use LibGuides for both client-facing and internal-use resources.

There are four types of client-facing guides:

  • Library Resource Guides
  • Research Skills Guides
  • General Library Guides.
  • Guides for Researchers

There are two types of internal-use guides. We use them for resource sharing, testing, training, guide templates, and team/working group management.

  • Internal Guide
  • Template Guide

These guide types are a formal part of the LibGuides platform and structure. Along with publication status, they influence where and how guides are displayed, accessed, and managed.

Examples

Guide type Used for: Example(s)
Library Resource Guides (LRGs) Subject- and discipline-specific guides for new students, based on key study areas and collating recommended library and web resources.
Research Skills Guides (RSGs)

Guides supporting individual subjects or courses in collaboration with academic staff, as an information literacy tool.

These are intended to be accessed through Interact2 subject sites and not the main Library Guide index page or Library website.

General Library Guides General information and help guides which cover a range of library skills, resources, and support services with various audiences.
Guides for Researchers Guides covering information likely to be of use to academic staff (in their research needs) and higher degree researchers.
Internal Guide

Guides for library staff use.

If you have a test guide it should be set as internal.

Template Guide

Building new LRGs and RSGs.

They enable us to maintain a consistent structure and appearance in these guides.

Also used as original locations for mapped boxes.
