Ebooks: Introduction to eBooks

Charles Sturt Library eBooks

Our eBooks are available online, anywhere, anytime. This includes a growing number of textbooks.

eBooks are books published in digital format. They are searchable, accessible and portable. Some eBook platforms will also allow you to highlight text, make notes and bookmark pages.

Finding eBooks

You can access eBooks through the Charles Sturt Library, using Primo Search or the A-Z Databases page.

In Primo Search you can find eBooks by:

  • limiting your resource type to books
  • selecting only available online.

In A-Z Databases, you can filter your results under database type to eBooks. This will provide you with a listing of eBook databases to search in.

Using eBooks

Your options for using eBooks will depend on the platform the ebook is available in. Some platforms will allow you to download or print specific chapters or sections, while some will let you download the whole book. Most will let you search within the eBook itself.

Restrictions when using eBooks

eBook publishers can apply different levels of access and usage restrictions which may affect the way you use them. Some of these restrictions include:

  • print, copy or download allowances
  • a limited number of users
  • borrowing periods.

Note: Some textbooks available through ProQuest Ebook Central have no print, copy or download allowances. They are only available for read online.

To ensure fair and equal access to eBooks, we encourage everyone to observe eBook etiquette. Please watch the video below for more information on this. Don't hesitate to contact us at the Library for assistance using eBooks!
