Using Leganto: For Staff: Troubleshooting & FAQs

Contact the Library

If you have any additional questions about using Leganto to build a Readings and Resources, please contact your Library Faculty Team

Remember, the Library runs Learn about Leganto PD sessions throughout the year. The session will guide you through the process of creating a list from scratch and demonstrate the process of adding different resource types.

Embedding Leganto into modules

Q. Can I embed links directly to Leganto into my learning modules?

No. Students must access the Readings and Resources list by selecting the link in the left navigation menu of the Interact2.

Why? The Leganto is an LTI not a website, therefore, users must be authenticated. Embedding the URL of the list into the learning modules will bypass this step resulting in an error.

If you would like to include contextual links in the learning modules, the Library recommends linking directly to a resource, not Leganto. We have developed a guide to show you how to create persistent links to items in Charles Sturt Library's electronic collections. See, Creating links to resources.

Or advise students to access the readings by using the Readings and Resources link in the left navigation menu.

Adding uncommon resources

Q. Can I upload a PDF document to Leganto?

To meet Copyright Act provisions, resources cannot be uploaded to Leganto. You may link to readings online, in eReserve, or in Library databases. See, Leganto & Copyright.

Q. How do I link to a resource that I've created (i.e. a PowerPoint presentation or a document)?
  1. Upload the resource to the Faculty section of DOMS to create a URL to the resource.
  2. Follow the instructions for manually adding an item and add the DOMS URL to the Source field.

See, Leganto & Copyright.

Q. I record my lectures in Charles Sturt University Replay (Panopto). Can I add these to my Readings and Resources list?

You sure can! The Library recommends adding these resources manually. See, Use manual entry.

Q. I want to include a book or book chapter that is not held by Charles Sturt Library.

Charles Sturt Library welcomes recommendations for purchase from academic staff.

To suggest an item for our collection within Leganto, add the items to your list using either manual entry or the Cite It! tool and the Library will review the item for purchase. Remember that these items will appear in your list, so if they are not readings for the subject, please submit your request using the Library’s Suggest New Material form.

If the request is for a chapter or section from a print book, the Library will source the book and provide the chapter as an eReserve reading. See, Add eReserve & Reserve items.

Timeframe - If the request is for a print book, please note that it will take approximately six weeks for your order to be made available. The process time is significantly reduced if the item is available as an eBook. If the reading is required immediately, please contact the Library for assistance.

Broken Links

Q. A resource in my list is broken.

Resources from Primo Search or the Library databases. Select the title of the item in your list to open the full record. Use the Report broken link to the Library option to notify the Library. The Library will investigate the error and replace the link for you.

Websites or web document. Search online for a new URL to the resource. Edit the item in your list and replace the URL in the Source field with the new URL you have found. See Edit or remove a reading.

Time saving tips

Q. I have two subjects where most of the readings are the same but some do differ. How can I create lists for these subjects efficiently?

The best way to approach this situation would be to:

  1. create one list with the common readings (see, Create a list)
  2. next, duplicate the list and associate one copy with each subject (see, Associate other cohorts)
  3. edit each list individually with the readings that differ.

Remember once the list is duplicated, changes made to one list will not be replicated in the other (see, Add content to your list).

Q. What is My Collection?

Saving items to My Collection in Leganto can be helpful if you are collecting readings for a subject but have not yet created the Readings and Resources list. Use the citation ellipsis (...) menu to add a citation in a list to My Collection. Pinning items to your Favourites when searching in Primo Search will also add items to My Collection in Leganto. Use Cite It! to save websites or external resources to My Collection.

To add an item to a list from My Collection, select Add Citation ( + ), choose the My Collection tab, and drag the item to your list.

Compatibility

Q. What browsers are recommended?

Leganto works best with Chrome or Firefox.

Leganto is incompatible with Internet Explorer, Safari, and Edge browsers. Accessing a list from Interact in Microsoft Edge will return: "Response code: 400 failed OAuth check".

Q. If a student is using Chrome or Firefox and still can't access their reading list, what should they do?

Clearing their internet browser cache and cookies will often solve access issues with websites. Follow the instructions from Chrome to do this. For Firefox follow the instructions to clear cache, and then clear cookies.

Q. Can I create and edit a Readings and Resources list on a mobile device?

Yes. You can create and edit a list on a mobile device, but the drag/drop function to re-order sections or citations will not work. The Library recommends using a laptop or desktop computer for this functionality.

Students can access readings from smart phones and tablets.
