If you choose to use EndNote for ornithology subjects the following notes will be useful.
BIO433 requires you reference in Journal of Avian Biology style, which does not come with EndNote, however it can be easily downloaded from Thomson & Reuters website (the publishers of EndNote).
- Go to Thomson Reuters EndNote Output Styles. It is on the EndNote website.
- Find the download for Journal of Avian Biology by using the search function or by scrolling.
- Click Download.
- In the File download Window, Click Open.
- The Style page for Journal of Avian Biology style will open within EndNote.
- On the left hand list, select “Journal Names” from the first level of the tree.
- Change the radio button in the main frame from “Don’t replace” to “Abbreviation 1”.
- Click File, Save as.
- Rename the file with a logical name such as Journal of Avian Biology.
- Click Save.
- Click the Style Page close button (small black cross at the top right of the screen) to close the Style Page (leave EndNote open).
- If you have previously created an Endnote Library, Open it. If not, create a new Endnote Library
- In your Endnote library, in the Output Style dropdown box at the top left, click on the drop down arrow and select Select Another Style.
- When the Choose a Style window opens, scroll down and select Journal of Avian Biology. Click on Choose.
To set the Journal of Avian Biology Style to show the journal abbreviations.
- In your Endnote library, from the menu bar, select Tools>Open Term Lists> Journal Term Lists.
- Make sure that the Terms tab is selected.
- Click Ctrl/A to select all the journal term lists. Then click Delete Term to delete the journal term lists. If you have not used EndNote yet, then there may be no entries in the Journal Term List.
- While still in the Term lists, select the Lists tab and ensure that Journals is highlighted.
- Click Import Lists.
- Select BioScience.txt. The file path should be C/Program files/EndNote X7/Term Lists.
Now, whenever The Journal of Avian Biology style is selected as the output style, the journal title will display in the abbreviated form.
