What is EndNote?
EndNote is a program that can be used to manage references and electronic copies of documents, e.g. PDFs, insert citations in MS Word documents and generate lists of references.

Before installation:
- Close EndNote, Microsoft Word and Microsoft Outlook.
- Click on the Install Software icon on your desktop.
- Select EndNote X6 from the list of programs and click on the Run button.
Alternative bibliographic software:
EndNote Web: A simplified version of EndNote. It performs most basic referencing tasks, but cannot be customised to individual needs. EndNote Web is accessed by the Internet, but requires a plugin to use it with Microsoft Word. Users can share selected folders of references with colleagues.
EndNote for iPad enables you to view, edit, organize, and share your research material and PDFs on an iPad. Using EndNoteSync with EndNote Web and EndNote (available separately) to access your reference library from multiple devices and platforms.
Zotero: A free Firefox extension. Users can share selected groups of references synced on a cloud server, with colleagues. Online tutorials and support are available from the developers. Requires a downloaded plugin for use with Microsoft Word.
Mendeley: A free application. Users can share selected groups of references synced on a cloud server, with colleagues. Online tutorials and support are available from the developers. Requires a downloaded plugin for use with Microsoft Word.

- Click on 'Help' in the toolbar
- Then 'Contents' (or use the 'Help' icon).
Mac users:
- Click on 'Help'
- Then 'EndNote X6.0.1 Help'
