OER Project Management: Library support

Guidance for creating or adapting OER at Charles Sturt, centred on Pressbooks but applicable to other formats.

Library support for OER projects

Scope: The detailed services and workflows described on this page apply specifically to OER created and published on the Library’s Pressbooks platform.

Working outside Pressbooks? Use the general guidance in this guide and get in touch for tailored advice - processes and service availability can vary by platform.

The Library will give preference to supporting OER project proposals for publication on the Library’s Pressbooks platform that:

  1. Align with Charles Sturt University strategic goals, such as improving access to education, supporting inclusive learning, and fostering innovation in teaching and learning.
  2. Demonstrate a clear educational purpose, such as enhancing teaching and learning, supporting SoTL initiatives, or addressing gaps in existing educational resources.
  3. Support foundational subjects or high-enrolment courses particularly where there is a lack of affordable or suitable resources or where commercial textbooks impose significant financial burdens on students.
  4. Involve collaboration between academic staff and students, and/or partnerships across departments and institutions.
  5. Commit to publishing under an appropriate Creative Commons license that grants users permission to retain, reuse, redistribute, remix and revise.
  6. Include a clear project plan, timeline, and demonstration of the team's capacity to complete the resource.
  7. Include a plan for maintaining and updating the resource to ensure its ongoing relevance and usability.
  8. Show potential for:
    • meeting the needs of underserved or diverse student populations.
    • broad adoption and use within or beyond the University.
