OER Project Management: Using AI

Guidance for creating or adapting OER at Charles Sturt, centred on Pressbooks but applicable to other formats.

Generative AI and open educational resources: Opportunities and pitfalls

AI ethics and copyright

Follow the university S.E.C.U.R.E framework and Brand guidelines: AI-generated imagery (p. 78) and use generative AI when it enhances your output or is needed for teaching. Consider the environmental and economic costs of using generative AI indiscriminately, for example - find real human created images or use your own photographs in preference to generating an AI image.

Use the arrow to compare a real photograph and an AI-generated image. One credits a real creator (and may pay royalties) with a clear, verifiable source. Which one is it?

Disclosing AI assistance

If you use artificial intelligence (AI) tools to generate or adapt any part of your OER (e.g., quizzes, images, written content, code), you must acknowledge and clearly disclose that use.
