HIP101 Research Skills Guide: Home

INTRODUCTION

Welcome to the HIP101 Research Skills Guide.

This guide was made for you by Library staff at Charles Sturt Library. It will introduce you to finding and using scholarly resources for your studies.

  • The guide should specifically help with Assessment Item 2 (Essay).
  • You will need to work through this guide in order to answer the Library questions in Assessment Item 3 - (Academic skill and) Library skills quiz.

The guide is structured in six main sections:

  • Getting Started: topic analysis; finding readings; sources of information; and search techniques
  • Using Primo Search to find known items and information on a topic
  • Using Databases to find journal articles and related material
  • Other Sources including the Australian Institute of Health and Welfare, the Australian Bureau of Statistics, and Google Scholar
  • Evaluating information you have found for your assessment
  • Writing and Referencing.

You can work through this guide at your own pace, or dip into it as needed. You can use the navigation structure (tabs and boxes), or the Next Page and Previous Page links.

If you need further assistance, please contact the Library, as in the box at right.

Wishing you the best for your studies.
