All library initiatives are guided by four core principles that ensure our support is inclusive, student-centred and sustainable.
Built for belonging
The Library helps create an inclusive university environment by respecting and supporting the diverse cultural backgrounds, accessibility needs and learning preferences of all students. This includes embedding First Nations cultural safety practices and working alongside colleagues across the University to reflect inclusive values in our programs and services.
Support the whole student
Supporting student wellbeing is a key part of the Library’s contribution to a positive learning experience. We offer a mix of practical resources and opportunities that encourage rest, build resilience and support mental wellness throughout the academic journey. From thoughtful space design to flexible access to tools and activities, we aim to create environments where students can recharge and feel supported. This holistic approach aligns with the University’s broader commitment to student wellbeing in all its forms.
Collaboration multiplies impact
We achieve more when we work together. Collaboration enables the Library to deliver more effective, inclusive and responsive services by drawing on shared expertise, local knowledge and common goals. By contributing to university-wide programs and co-developing initiatives that are place-based and student-informed, we strengthen our ability to meet diverse needs. Through genuine collaboration, we learn, grow and create more respectful, inclusive experiences together. Partnerships that support OER-enabled pedagogy, inclusive learning and student engagement help us build programs that are richer, more sustainable and more meaningful across the whole student experience.
Co-create, iterate, sustain
We listen, test and evolve our initiatives with students to ensure they remain relevant, inclusive and long lasting. We trust our students to give honest feedback and they trust us to use it. Together, we build library spaces and meaningful experiences. Students are partners in the journey. We prioritise student input and use evidence-based approaches to shape programs and services tailored to evolving client needs. We value their judgement and design systems that make it easy for them to shape their own experiences. Our engagement initiatives are built to be adaptable and sustainable. Governance, safety and accessibility are embedded from the outset to ensure our services remain responsive, high quality and future-focused.
