Library Service Catalogue: Learning and teaching

The Charles Sturt Library supports learning and teaching by developing systems, software, services and resources designed to enhance quality-assured online and blended learning experiences. Our approach actively involves students in their own learning and skills development.

Accreditation reports

  • Guiding users to essential resources on the Library website.
  • Assisting with detailed search tasks in Primo Search to support report preparation.
  • Creating and managing accreditation reports for course directors, including preparing presentations and responding to enquiries from accrediting bodies.

Copyright and licensing for teaching

  •  
  • Directing users to relevant copyright guides for initial assistance.
  • Explaining subscription eBook access, including usage allowances and limitations.
  • Explaining copyright and Creative Commons licences, including attribution requirements.
  • Clarifying the permitted use of public domain, free-to-read and openly licensed materials. Complex enquiries are referred to the Copyright & Open Content Librarian.
  • Delivering presentations on copyright topics, addressing complex enquiries and developing training resources.
  • Advising on obtaining permissions for using third-party copyright materials.
  • Guiding the use of Creative Commons licensing for open educational resources and advising on using openly licensed materials for study and teaching.
  • Coordinating and advising on the Statutory Education Licence and Universities Music Licence in collaboration with Legal Services.
  • Referring complex legal matters to Legal Services.

Course and subject review / development

  • Partnering with academics, the Division of Learning and Teaching, and course teams to map graduate learning outcomes (GLOs), textbooks and assessments across courses.

Creating links to resources

  • Teaching users how to create links for Leganto reading lists.
  • Providing assistance with link creation and troubleshooting.
  • Offering advanced problem-solving and alternative solutions for specific linking needs.
  • Providing easy-to-use web tools for creating deep links to resources.

Information and digital literacy

  • Directing users to Library guides and self-help resources.
  • Offering targeted resources tailored to specific subjects.
  • Providing integrated support for research-focused students (e.g., Honours, research projects).
  • Supporting course intervention planning and adapting feedback.
  • Managing the Integrated Information and Digital Literacies Scope of Service.

eReserve and reserve

  • Collaborating with Client Services to troubleshoot and resolve complex Leganto issues.
  • Digitising physical resources to make them electronically available via embedded reading lists.

GLO advice

  • Providing links to general Information and Digital Literacies GLO resources and specialised LibGuides.
  • Offering examples of assessment tasks and learning activities related to the Information and Digital Literacies GLO within LibGuides.
  • Evaluating subject suitability for the Integrated Information and Digital Literacies program.
  • Collaborating with academic staff to embed Information and Digital Literacies GLO elements into subjects or courses.

Leganto

  • Assisting with navigation of Leganto reading lists in Brightspace for course readings.
  • Directing students and staff to self-help resources for Leganto.
  • Providing Leganto training for academics, including list setup and item addition, via group sessions and one-on-one support.
  • Supporting the creation and addition of items to Leganto lists with clear instructions.
  • Collaborating with Collection Services to troubleshoot and resolve complex Leganto issues.
  • Managing the Leganto Scope of Service.

Open Educational Resources

  • Offering tailored support to help academic staff find, adopt, adapt and publish high-quality OER.
  • Providing self-help tools, guides, and search strategies for discovering and evaluating OER.
  • Offering one-on-one consultations for resource discovery, adoption planning and accessibility guidance.
  • Supporting copyright and licensing needs, including Creative Commons licensing and attribution.
  • Providing access to the Pressbooks platform, including technical and publishing assistance.
  • Conducting quality reviews of OER created in Pressbooks to ensure accessibility and copyright compliance.
  • Collaborating on innovative OER projects, including co-creation with students and grant support.
  • Managing the OER Scope of Service.

Scholarship of teaching and learning (SoTL)

  • Directing users to Library guides and self-help resources for independent learning.
  • Teaching use of SCImago for journal identification.
  • Advising on avoiding predatory publishers and navigating open access publishing.
  • Assisting with understanding research impact and related publication issues.
  • Collaborating on individual publishing strategies and consulting with academic leadership on broader publishing plans.
