Ornithology Research Skills Guide: Primo Search

Using Primo Search

Primo Search is the best place to start your research. It is a way to find most of what is in the library collection using an easy search tool. You will find relevant books and journals, plus other academic materials from DVDs to thesis and eBooks.

You can get to Primo Search from the Library website homepage, or try the Primo Search TRY IT NOW activity.

Use your usual Charles Sturt University username and password to log in to Primo Search. You can search without logging in but you need to log in to request items and see your saved searches.

What is Primo Search?

Try it now

In Primo Search window, try typing in the some keywords that relate to our previous example. Try the words: foraging behaviour; King Penguins

Notice the number of results you get? The good thing about Primo Search is that these are all available to you through the Library's subscriptions and holdings.

  • Try using the facets on the left to refine your search. Limit the publication date to the most recent material. Limit to books or articles to see what is available in each format.
  • You may notice that there is a mix of topics, including seasonal variations; foraging behaviour; birds etc. Use the Topic facet on the left to make your results relevant.
