PHC101 Research Skills Guide: Use Primo Search

What is Primo Search?

Primo Search allows you to use one search box to bring back results from most of the CSU Library collection, such as:

  • Books, eBooks, DVDs and journals
  • Most online journal articles and newspaper articles
  • CSU research papers and theses

Enter your search terms, and then use the links on the results screen to refine your results, view online material, or locate physical resources.

ACTIVITY

In Primo Search, try searching with some of the keywords you identified in your topic analysis, such as paramedic* and "psychological distress"

Note: The asterisk * is a truncation symbol and "" double quotation marks are used to search for a phrase. See the Search Strategies page of this guide for more search tips.

Click on Search to view your results. Notice the number of results you get? All of these are all available to you through the Library's subscriptions and holdings.

  • Try using the filters on the left to refine your search. For example, limit to Peer reviewed journals to find articles from scholarly journals
  • If you find there is a mix of topics use the Topic limiter to make your results more relevant.
