Open Educational Resources: Adopting OER

Adopting OER

Adopting an OER can be the easiest way to include open content in your teaching. Remember, you can use any suitable openly licensed material such as infographics, images, videos or similar.

Ready to adopt?

Adopting or sharing an OER can be as simple as following these steps:

  • Find a textbook that's right for your course. Need help locating a suitable text? Check out the tips on the Finding OER page  or speak to your Faculty Librarian
  • Check the licence to ensure it's an OER and that you can use it the way you intend. If you are unsure how you can use an OER with a particular licence, check with the Copyright team or your Faculty Librarian
  • Evaluate the text, much as you would do for any teaching resource
  • Distribute to your students

Found an OER that's not quite right?

One of the key aspects of OER is the capacity to not only reuse but to adapt or 'remix' some resources. This could be adapting resources to meet specific needs e.g. contextual pedagogic requirements or using resources from different sources together. Read more on the Adapting OER page or contact your Faculty Librarian.
