Legal encyclopaedias summarise aspects of the law, giving you an overview and pointing to important legislation and cases (primary sources).
Legal commentaries provide up to date, detailed information on a particular subject area. They often provide a mixture of expert commentary, legislation and key cases.
Don't forget to use case citators when available, they are important research tools for finding cases by topic. They will provide references and links to reported and unreported judgments and also indicate relationships between cases, helping determine their precedent value.
