Using credible information will improve the quality of your assessment and may result in better marks, but how can you tell whether the resources you've found are credible and suitable for your assessment? Have you been asked to use peer reviewed or refereed articles? Are you using authoritative websites?

Before you use a resource in you assessment you need to evaluate it and consider if it is appropriate to use.

The information in the guide suggests what you should consider when evaluating information sources from range of resource types, to make sure it’s reliable.

Locating information to use for your assessments is the first step in the research process. Information comes from many and varies sources and produced in a variety of text types. It moves through a process called the information cycle.

What is information and where do we get it from?

Information comes from a wide variety of sources and changes over time. We call this the information cycle.

Information also takes on many forms so it is important to assess the things you hear, see and read for credibility. Information can contain bias so being able to critically read the information and assess the credibility of the source are important skills.
