Reading and analysing a text to uncover its meaning is an important activity during this subject, and is a skill you can use across a lot of disciplines during your studies. Within English Literature, this kind of critical reading is often called literary analysis, and focuses on how the author has used plot/structure, character, setting, and many other techniques within a text to create and convey a deeper message.
