Charles Sturt University has a number of Open Access Publishing Agreements, most are negotiated by the Council of Australasian University Librarians (CAUL). In 2025 we have agreements with the following publishers:
In 2025, four of the eleven Open Access publishing agreements available at Charles Sturt and negotiated by CAUL are subject to a nation-wide publishing cap. This means that once the article cap is reached, there will no longer be room for new articles to be published under the agreement this year.
See the full list of all journals included: CAUL Read & Publish Agreements
When a cap is exhausted, there is no longer an option for Article Processing Charges (APCs) to be covered in 2025.
What does it mean for me if a cap is exhausted?
If your article is peer reviewed and accepted by the publisher before the cap was reached, then you’re still eligible for your APC to be covered under the agreement.
If your final peer reviewed article was only accepted after the cap was reached, your options depend on the journal type. To find out more about capped agreements and what you can do if you have an article in progress or ready to go read the Library Blog.
Other agreements:
The Journal of Medical Microbiology.
Corresponding authors from Charles Sturt now have the ability to publish in The Journal of Medical Microbiology without paying Article Processing Charges (APCs). There is no cap, this is a publisher direct agreement. Read more here.
Without an Open Access Publishing agreement, you may be charged an article processing charge (APC). This can range anywhere up to $4500 per article (and occasionally more).
In 2025, Charles Sturt will continue offering the Tri-Faculty Open Access Publishing scheme. See the Internal Funding Opportunities webpage for more information on Faculty lead APC funding distinct from the CAUL Open Access Publishing agreements.
