After working through the Discover EndNote steps try these activities to further develop your skills.
Get Started
After you've downloaded EndNote and created your first library check where the .enl file and associated .data folder have been saved on your computer. Make sure they are saved locally (not to the Cloud!) and consider creating a new folder to keep these files together.
Find and download the CSU APA 7 referencing output style. This What is EndNote? guide provides some steps.
Locate and bookmark the Academic Referencing Tool (ART) and the APA Referencing Summary pdf. You will need to refer to these when you are working with EndNote. This referencing page in the student portal is a great place to look!
Build your Library
Locate a relevant article from EBSCOhost or another journal database and export the citation to EndNote. You may need to look for words such as export or cite. You will find the steps in the EndNote: Direct export guide.
Once imported, check the record in EndNote. Is it accurate and complete? Is the data in the correct fields? Is the text case ok? Is there anything missing, for example DOIs or page numbers?
Select one of your newly created EndNote records and check the reference output in the 'preview panel'. Make sure you have selected the APA-7th CSU style. Do the reference outputs match the requirements provided in the Academic Referencing Tool (ART)? If not, make the necessary edits and save.
Use EndNote with Word
Create a new document using Microsoft Word and add a paragraph of text. Use the Insert Citation option from the Word EndNote 20 tab to insert at least two APA 7th CSU formatted citations within your document. Make sure your cursor is where you want the citation to appear. The videos on the EndNote & Microsoft™ Word guide will help you with these activities.
Now try editing and managing these citations. First, remove the author's name from the first in-text citation and then add a page number to your second in-text citation.
Finally, try removing one of the in-text citations.
