A topic analysis will help you to clarify and understand what your assessment question is asking you to do.

You will generally be given three key pieces of information:

1. The key topic or concept words direct you in what to research.
2. The limits or qualifiers tell you the specific focus of the topic or concept.
3. The task or instruction terms tell how you are to deal with the content. Charles Sturt University has a list of explanations for common instruction words.

To complete Assessment 2 and Assessment 3, you need to select an emergency event and write an introduction about the event (A2), then write a detailed short report about the event (A3). In the report you need to provide the following:

• Introduction: Provide a brief overview of the event.
• Event Analysis: Explain why your chosen event occurred. Make use of technical and scientific information to support your explanation. Also make use of relevant diagrams, maps or other graphics to support your explanation. 
• Event Impact: Identify and discuss the effects that the event had on people, the community, infrastructure and essential services, the environment, and the economy.
• Command, control, and coordination: Identify and discuss how the command, control, and coordination functions were fulfilled in this event.
• Implications for Emergency Management: Identify and discuss one long-term emergency management implication of this event for each of the areas of the Emergency Management Framework i.e. Prevention/Mitigation, Preparedness, Response, and Recovery.
• Conclusion: Provide a concluding paragraph to your report which sums up your report.

You will need to support your report with emergency management theory and credible and relevant references.
