NRS160 Research Skills Guide: Primo Search

What is Primo Search?

Primo Search allows you to use one search box to bring back results from most of the Charles Sturt University Library collection, such as:

  • Books, eBooks, DVDs and journals
  • Most online journal articles and newspaper articles
  • Charles Sturt University research papers and theses

Enter your search terms, and then use the links on the results screen to refine your results, view online material, or locate physical resources.

Activity 2 - Primo Search

""In the Primo Search window above, try searching for the keywords – "media representation" histor* nurs* (or other keywords that you identified in your topic analysis).

Note: * is a truncation symbol and "" double quotation marks are used to search for a phrase, see the Search Strategies page for more information.

Click on search to view your results.

Notice the number of results you get? The good thing about Primo Search is that most of these are all available to you through the Library's subscriptions and holdings.

  • Try using the facets on the left to refine your search. For example, limit to Peer reviewed Journals to find articles from scholarly journals.
  • You may notice that there is a mix of topics, including Ethics, Social Media etc. Try selecting a Topic from left hand Refine My Results column to make your results more relevant.
