Assessment 2: Locating and utilising quality evidence

Assessment 2 requires you to: 

  • locate the journal article that's listed and provided in Cadmus.
  • review it for its quality, using the CRAP Test.
  • describe two ideas you gained from reading the article
  • locate, via Charles Sturt Library, one additional peer-reviewed article which meets certain criteria, and supports what you learned about the nursing profession from the first article.

This guide should help you with:

  • applying the CRAP Test to an item
  • searching for peer-reviewed journal articles
  • understanding peer review and being able to identify if an article is peer-reviewed. 

Finding the first article

The Cingel & Brouwer article is provided for you in Cadmus. It's in the Resource section, and there is a link to the online article in the instructions for Step 2: Saving, selecting and reviewing your article.

You should also be able to find the Cingel & Brouwer article by searching in Primo Search using some of the details from the reference. If you are not sure about identifying the different parts of a reference, go to the Recommended readings page of this guide.

Primo Search is the Library's main search tool. For help with searching, see the section in this guide on Primo Search.

TOP TIP: When searching for a known item, such as your textbook or an article, use just the title of the item, enclosed in double quotation marks if it's a phrase. If it's a common word or phrase, you might have to add an author surname. For more help with your search, click through to the Search techniques and Primo Search pages of this guide.

Finding an Additional Peer-Reviewed Article

To find your second article, you'll need to carry out a topic search in Primo Search. In this case, your topic will be determined by "what you learned about the nursing profession from Cingel & Brouwer (2021)". You could then:

  • Find different words or phrases to describe your topic
  • Build a search strategy using search operators and other techniques
  • Carry out the search in Primo Search.
