HLT330 Research Skills Guide: EBSCOhost

EBSCOhost is probably the most-used platform at CSU. It has databases relevant to most of the areas taught at CSU.

Within EBSCOhost:

  • You can change the database(s) you are searching in by clicking on the Choose databases link above the 3 search boxes.
  • The default is to the Advanced Search screen, with its 3 search boxes. The default search - Select a Field (optional) - is to search across the main fields of each record. You can change this if you like: searching only in title, or in subject, will often return better and more relevant results.
  • The default to a keyword search: if you enter multiple words, the database will insert the AND operator between them. If you wish to search for a phrase, you will need to enclose your words in double quotation marks.
  • Most of your results should have the full-text attached. For those that don't, use the Find it - CSU links to search for the full item in other subscription databases.
  • If you want to go back to a previous search to view results, click on the Search History link below the search boxes. This displays a table of all the searches you have run since last login. You can combine previous searches using AND or OR.
