How to add weblinks to your I2 site

Adding Weblinks

When adding weblinks to Interact 2 sites you have two options. The first option is to paste the link directly into the page where you want it to appear. The second option is to embed the link within a section of text already on the page so that the URL is not visible.

In this example we are looking at pasting a link to the Wikipedia page on Open Access.

Step 1. Copy the link from your browser window on the appropriate webpage.

Step 2. Write a description for the link and either (option 1 below) paste the link in afterwards using the keyboard shortcut 'Ctrl-V' (note: the paste option often does not work so the keyboard shortcut must be used) or (option 2 below) you can leave out the URL and place the link within the text used for the description.

Step 3. Highlight the URL you just pasted in or the section of text related to the hyperlink and click on the 'Insert/Edit Link' button  in the content editor toolbar (please note, the 'Insert/Edit Link' button is not available - is greyed out - until a section of text is selected):

Step 4. Paste the URL into the link path window. You should set the target to open in a new window so that the user does not need to navigate back to where they were. You should also give the link a title to assist with accessiblity.

Your finished text should look like the following:

Option 1 eg. For a brief description of the Open Access movement please read the Wikipedia page here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Open_access

Or:

Option 2 eg. For a brief description of the Open Access movement please read the Wikipedia page on Open Access.
