NRS221 Research Skills Guide: Primo Search

What is Primo Search?

Primo Search allows you to use one search box to bring back results from most of the Charles Sturt University Library collection, such as:

  • Books, eBooks, DVDs and journals
  • Most online journal articles and newspaper articles
  • Charles Sturt University research papers and theses

Enter your search terms, and then use the links on the results screen to refine your results, view online material, or locate physical resources.

Activity 2 - Primo Search

""In the Primo Search window above, try searching for the keywords: "pain assessment" AND age* AND nurs*

(or other keywords that you identified in your topic analysis)

Note: * is a truncation symbol, see the Search Strategies page for more information.

Click on search to view your results.

Notice the huge number of results you get? Most of them are immediately available to access online through Primo Search! The sheer number of results, however, means that you will need to refine your search strategy to filter out irrelevant results.

  • Try using the facets on the left to refine your search. For example, limit to Peer reviewed Journals to find articles from scholarly journals, and add a date range of 2016-2021.
  • You may notice that there is a mix of topics, including Aged and Nursing. Try selecting a Topic from left hand Refine My Results column to make your results more relevant to your topic.
  • You can also filter by Journal Title. This is helpful when you need to find results in a specific discipline or area of research within a topic.
  • If your results aren't what you're looking for, try changing your keywords or applying different filters.
