SPH511 Research Skills Guide: Primo Search

Topic searching in Primo

  • Primo Search can be used to search for material on a topic.
  • For example, to find information on communication for dementia patients in the context of speech therapy, you could type into the search box dementia communicat* "speech therapy"  and click on Search. Remember, Primo will run this search as dementia [AND] communicat* [AND] "speech therapy"

  • There are lots of results, but the idea of Primo Search is to use the Show only or the Refine my results panels on the left of screen. You can refine by many different criteria, including:
    • Peer-reviewed journals
    • Resource type
    • Date of publication
    • Topics
    • Journals

  • Tip: For a quick way to get fewer, and more relevant, results, change Anywhere in the record to In the title (or In subject) before you click on Search
