Welcome to the CCI101 Research Skills Guide.  

This guide was designed to make your research process easier, and to help you complete your assessment. You can use this guide when you're starting an essay, for a refresher on the skills the guide can teach you.

When you've completed the Essay Research Skills Tutorial, you will be able to:

  • Analyse your research/essay question and identify relevant keywords to use in a database search
  • Understand the appropriate sources of information to use for university assessments
  • Use search tools for books and journals
  • Search using operators like AND & OR, and understand effective use of truncation
  • Evaluate your resources to make sure they're appropriate for academic use
  • Reference using APA 7 and Chicago Style.
