About Books@OVID

Books@OVIDBooks@Ovid provides access to a large collection of health related eBooks, including the subject areas: nursing, dentistry and pharmacy.

Books@Ovid is a DRM free platform, this means there are fewer limitations applied to books in this collection. For example, this collection allows unlimited simultaneous users.

eBooks from this collection can be read online, but cannot be downloaded to be read offline.

Reading Online

When you link to an eBook in Books@Ovid from Primo Search you will be taken directly to the book's home screen.

A contents list appears on the left hand side of the screen, use this listing to navigate within the book and read online.

From this view of the ebook you can access a number of features using links that appear above the text and contents listing of the book:

  • Add to My Projects - Add item to a new or existing folder/project. Note: you must have an Ovid personal account to use this function, if you do not have an account you will be prompted to create one after clicking on Add to My Projects.
  • Save - To save a section or chapter of the book to your computer click on Save, select required format (unformatted ASCII, to download as a text document, OR formatted HTML), click Continue, select either Open with or Save File
  • Print Preview - To print a section or chapter click on Print Preview, select image format from options screen dropdown menu, click Continue, print preview screen appears, Print Options popup appears, make selections and click OK to print
  • Email - To email content of selected chapter click the Email link, email book content screen appears, add email address to the To box, click Send Email
  • Email Jumpstart - To email a link to the book, or book section, click Email Jumpstart, add email address to the To box, click Send Email. Note: link is accessible by CSU Staff & Students.
  • Search Within - To search within the text use the Search box that appears above the Table of Contents
  • Book Reader - To view the current book in Ovid's online Book Reader click on the link that appears toward the top right hand side of the screen.

Highlighting/Annotating - Highlights and annotations cannot be added directly to text in Ovid. However annotations can be added to chapters that have been added to My Project folders. Once a section has been added to your My Project folder, as per instructions above, and you are logged in to your personal Ovid account, access it by clicking on the My Account link, then select My Workspace, select Project/Folder, add annotations by clicking on the Annotate link "" that appears below the saved chapter's details.

Book Reader

The Book Reader version of an ebook can be accessed by clicking on the View in Book Reader "" link that appears toward the top right hand side of a book's home screen.

The Ovid Book Reader enables access to a number of features such as the ability to download & save chapters as PDFs.

To navigate through the book use the next and previous arrows, or use the expandable table of contents, that appears toward the left of the screen, to jump to a particular chapter.

Search within the book feature is accessible from the Search icon "" that appears above the table of contents.

Access more options by clicking on the Tools icon "" that appears toward the top right of the screen.

Use the Tools Menu to:

  • Print - To print a section or chapter click on Print, select image format from the options screen dropdown menu, click Continue, print preview screen appears, Print Options popup appears, make selections and click OK to print
  • Export to PDF - To save a section or chapter of an OVID ebook click Export to PDF, select Open with...PDF reader program (eg Adobe Acrobat Reader), current chapter will then open in PDF format. You can then save the PDF to your computer and highlight/annotate the PDF using your PDF reader software.
  • Save to Disk - To save a section or chapter of the book to your computer click on Save to Disk, select required format (unformatted ASCII, to download as a text document, OR formatted HTML), click Continue, select either Open with or Save File
  • Email Text - To email content of selected chapter click the Email link, email book content screen appears, add email address to the To box, click Send Email.
  • Add to My Projects - To add item to a new or existing folder/project click + My Project. Note: you must have an OVID personal account to use this function, if you do not have an account you will be prompted to create one after clicking on + My Project.
  • Email Link - To email a link to the book, or book section, click Email Link, add email address to the To box, click Send Email. Note: link is accessible by CSU Staff & Students.
  • Citation - To access citation details click on the Citation link

Expandable Images - Click on any images or figures on the page you are viewing within the Book Reader and they will open up in a separate window:
